Evil Dead, An Animated Tribute [Ex Mortis Films]

Follow the evil that roams through the dark bowers of man’s domain in this balls-to-the-wall animated tribute to the sights, sounds and unforgettable characters of Sam Raimi’s iconic EVIL DEAD trilogy!

The time: Late 80s. The place: A supermarket video store in the middle of Northcentral Wisconsin. The prize: A beat up copy of EVIL DEAD 2, in a format that’s just as long-gone as the store it was rented from.

As a teenager stuck in the middle of middle school, all I wanted to do was make movies, so naturally I spent all of my free time watching them. I stalked the aisles of the Super 29 video store, and decided to rent every movie in the horror section… alphabetically.

I wound up stuck in the Es, because after I watched EVIL DEAD 2, all I did was pop it into the rewinder (remember those?) and watched it again. And again. And then about a million more times after that.

It was scary, hilarious, gross, and insanely inventive, especially when it came to all the abuse suffered by Bruce Campbell… and all of the creative ways Sam Raimi found to propel his camera through the walls of that blood soaked cabin in the woods. (My favorite part is still any moment where it feels like the camera itself is about to beat the shit out of poor Ash).

So this is my cinematic love letter to three hugely influential films that made me want to be a filmmaker: EVIL DEAD, EVIL DEAD 2, and ARMY OF DARKNESS.

I created all the artwork in the sequence, but the final image is directly inspired by an incredible EVIL DEAD poster created by Olly Moss. The moment I saw it, I only wanted to see it move – which is how I feel about all great posters. The new wave of artists working with Mondo have made movie posters worth collecting again, and that’s a great thing. I hope to someday join their ranks.

Special thanks to the cast and crew of the EVIL DEAD trilogy, Jeff Yorkes (who found me a print of that sold-out-in-an-instant Olly Moss poster), and Joe Pleiman, the most talented sound designer in the world.

Ed Gein Demon Hunter Number 1 Free PDF [Lucifer Storm]

Greetings & Salutations, Everyone! How The Devil Art Thou?

Yes. You read the heading correctly. And you're getting this because you are one of the many awesome people who signed up for my e-mail list. Allow me to explain...

Recently, after a certain part decided to defame my character and spread vicious information about my book that was entirely false, I decided to make the first issue of 'ED GEIN: DEMON HUNTER' available online to read for free.

However, it has come to my attention that most people who read digital editions of comics and graphic novels would rather read a PDF or CBR file than have to head on over to a website. So, I decided that I should make it available as a free download when people sign up for my e-mail list. The only issue was there were several hundred of you who have signed up but have not been given a free PDF of the first issue of a mini-series that I am very proud of.

So, I'm rectifying that for you right now.

All you have to do is click on the button below and your download will begin immediately.

I hope you all enjoy the first issue as much as I have enjoyed writing the entire mini-series. Issues Two & Three of which are available in print and digital now from my website.

I think I should also mention that the PDF is DRM FREE too! This means you can share it with any of your friends who you think will enjoy the book!

That's it for now. I know I don't message often but I will be looking to change that as we head towards the end of 2022...Don't worry, I won't become a pest with it.

Until next time: Take Care Of Yourself and stay awesome!

Best Regards,

Lucifer

Complete Halloween Music Catalog to Download [Halloween Shindig]

Halloween Shindig came to life back in 2002 as a single disc, 700mb compilation made for a Halloween party thrown at the Academy Arts Building of Savini High in Monessen, Pennsylvania. It drew its name from the Mr. Show with Bob and David sketch Probings, which pokes no small amount a fun at the novelty Halloween genre.

The compilation was a hit, so the following year it was expanded to a 2nd CD.

Over the next few years, attending all manner of Halloween parties in the Los Angeles area, my friends and I started feeling tricked by the musical selections with which were being treated. This was Halloween dammit! Where was all the Halloween music? Where were all the great songs about and from Horror movies?

So, with help of friends and the growing internet, I began focusing efforts to expand the playlist. Halloween Shindig would cater to the Horror set; no modern pop, vaguely related nonsense or cheerful dance floor hits here. This would be a playlist for Dream Warriors and Fright Night and The Misfits.

By 2010, we began throwing our own parties, with The Shindig serving as the evening‘s audio entertainment, and everyone rejoiced. More and more friends starting asking me for the playlist, which I was more than happy to provide, but it wasn’t easy. There had to be a better way!

And then, I started wondering if more people out there wouldn’t also enjoy the custom Halloween playlist I’d been creating. So in 2012, I created this blog as a way to share The Shindig with the world.

Now, 6 years and over 200 songs later, Halloween Shindig lives at its own address and can be accessed the world over by Halloween and Horror fans similarly disillusioned by the audio offerings of their local Halloween Shindigs.

So whaddya waitin’ for…dig in!

The Gift (2000) Movie Review [Dead End Follies]

In the now defunct era of video rental stores, a friend of mine had this rule of thumb: ''Never rent a comedy if the cover background is white. It's going to rip off an already mediocre comedy.'' After putting my friend's rule to the test, I found out it was usually accurate. Same thing could be said about the DVD covers with several faces floating on a dark cover. They're usually cheap, John Grisham-inspired judiciary thrillers. Stupid (yet accurate) rules of thumb may explain why I ignored THE GIFT for 13 long, freakin' years. Its bland and uninspired packaging is in no way a reflection of this beautiful southern gothic tale. Don't let father time win against this hidden gem. It is good enough to deserve immortality.

Dark Arts Book Review [Hellnotes]

After his splendid debut novel The Saint Perpetuus Club of Buenos Aires I had lost trace of American writer Eric Stener Carlson, whose latest book Dark Arts is a collection of twelve stories (ten of which are previously unpublished) offered in a gorgeous hardcover volume published by British imprint Tartarus Press.

Author Eric Stener Carlson [Official Site]

Eric Stener Carlson (Minnesota, 1969) is an author currently based in Geneva, Switzerland.

He wrote his first book, "I Remember Julia: Voices of the Disappeared" (Temple University Press, 1996), when he was right out of college. It is based on his work with the Argentine Forensic Anthropology Team identifying the remains of people killed by the military dictatorship in the 1970s. After working for the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia in the 1990s, he wrote his second book, "The Pear Tree: Is Torture Ever Justified?" (Clarity Press, 2006), a very personal investigation into the use of torture and its moral consequences.

Eric became a novelist with the publication of "The Saint Perpetuus Club of Buenos Aires" (Tartarus Press, 2009), a surreal, supernatural mystery. He followed this up with the novel, "Muladona" (Tartarus Press, 2016), "Anxiety of Ghosts" (Amazon, 2017) and his first short story collection, "GAS" (Abraxas Press, 2018). He has a number of other novel projects in the works.

His short stories and articles have appeared in journals in the US, UK, Argentina and Spain.

Eric holds a BA in International Affairs from The American University, an MA in International Affairs from Columbia University and a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of California at Santa Barbara. He was also a Fulbright scholar affiliated with the University of Buenos Aires.

Eric frequently lectures and is always happy to give talks to book clubs and universities.

Five Top Ghost Tours For National Ghost Hunting Day [Halloween Every Night]

True believers see ghosts everywhere. Skeptics see bupkis. But on National Ghost Hunting Day, there is something for both to enjoy in five of the best ghost tours in the country.

On Sept. 24, aficionados can celebrate National Ghost Hunting Day by doing more than singing the Ghostbusters theme.

Many cities have dark pasts that breed speculation about the supernatural, though some locations must be seen to be enjoyed.

“A good ghost tour provides a rich history and a balance of legends while incorporating the modern,” says Cris August, owner of OC Ghosts and Legends. “It’s a field that requires a great deal of patience, but everyone loves a good ghost story.”

Halloween Every Night assembled a white-knuckled fist full of ghost tours from around the country that embody that spirit of entertainment.

Dead Bride (2022) Movie Review [Indie Horror Films]

Who doesn’t love a ghost story. That is not a question. Yeah, let’s just get that out of the way. Right from the prologue, this film makes itself known for what is the backbone of the story. But, of course, there is so much more, like revenge, jealousy, sleep paralysis, and generational terror.

The Sexiest Scenes in Horror [Horror Obsessive]

In horror, sex is most often the catalyst for death. Nothing stirs Jason’s murderous impulse more than a pair of writhing co-eds. Michael may be a cool, controlled psychopath, but if he sees naked flesh, you may find yourself at the pointy end of his rusty knife. Sex in horror films is rarely sensual, reserving the lens most often for either exploitative means or male gaze views of full-frontal nudity. Despite this pattern, some films within the genre capture the power of sex. It can be a tool of manipulation, a bonding act to overcome grief, a fight for control, or a clear representation of the struggle for people to connect.

There is a great well to draw from when incorporating sex into horror, and the following are the best creative, compelling, and horny scenes in horror. You might want to keep some ice nearby because it’s about to get hot.
