Imagine sailing across a completely silent sea toward a mysterious island surrounded by enormous cliffs.

Arnold Böcklin created several versions of the painting, and each one captures an eerie sense of isolation.
There's no obvious monster.
Nothing is chasing anybody.
And that's precisely why it's unsettling.
It feels like the moment in a horror movie when the protagonist realizes they've arrived somewhere they were never supposed to be.
