Halloween Is Stranger After Dark

There's also something wonderfully appropriate about setting this kind of horror in a suburb or village.

Horror doesn't always need an obviously frightening location.

A haunted castle tells you what to expect.

An abandoned asylum tells you what to expect.

A cemetery tells you what to expect.

But a normal neighbourhood?

That's different.

Because you've probably lived somewhere like it.

You've probably walked down a quiet street at night.

You've probably looked at houses illuminated by the moon.

You've probably passed a cemetery after dark.

And you've probably experienced that strange moment when a familiar place suddenly looks completely different.

Lovecraft simply takes that feeling and turns the dial until it breaks off.
