There are horror games that you play once.
There are horror games that you play for a weekend.
There are horror games that you play until 3:00 in the morning, at which point you suddenly realize you have work in four hours and your life choices have become questionable.
And then there is Dead by Daylight.
Released in 2016 by Behaviour Interactive, Dead by Daylight has somehow turned the simple concept of “one psychopath chases four terrified people around a map” into one of the most enduring horror games ever created.
In 2026, the game celebrated its 10th anniversary, which is an absolutely ridiculous achievement for any multiplayer game—and especially for a horror game.
The Fog has been around for a decade.
And apparently it isn't planning on clearing anytime soon.
Ten Years of Running for Your Life
When Dead by Daylight originally launched, the concept was remarkably simple.
One player became the Killer.
Four other players became Survivors.
The Survivors had to repair generators, open the exit gates and escape.
The Killer's job was to make sure that absolutely none of that happened.
Simple, right?
Well, apparently that simple formula was made of some kind of industrial-strength horror glue.
A decade later, the game has grown enormously while keeping that basic structure intact. Behaviour Interactive's official 10th-anniversary retrospective notes that the original roster of three Killers and four Survivors has expanded to 41 Killers and 51 Survivors, with even more characters when Legendary Outfit variations are considered.
That's quite an expansion.
In 2016, you could be chased by The Trapper.
In 2026, you can potentially find yourself running for your life from characters drawn from some of the biggest names in horror and pop culture.
Basically, the Entity has been collecting horror licenses like a kid collecting monster cards.
