There are few things more comforting than knowing that Michael Myers is coming back.
Sure, he has been coming back for nearly 50 years. He has survived gunshots, stabbings, fires, falls, explosions, retcons, reboots, alternate timelines and approximately 9,000 people who really should have remembered to check behind the curtain.
But this time, Michael Myers isn't just coming back to a movie theater.
He's coming to your game console—and this time, you get to be the Boogeyman.
Halloween: The Game is scheduled to arrive digitally on September 8, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. Developed and published by IllFonic, the game is being built around the 1978 Halloween rather than trying to cram every sequel, reboot and timeline into one giant continuity blender.
And from everything we've seen so far, this could be one of the most interesting video-game adaptations of Halloween ever made.
So let's take a look at what we actually know.
Welcome Back to 1978
The game takes place on Halloween night in 1978, which means we're going back to the Haddonfield that started everything.
No Cult of Thorn.
No supernatural Michael.
No Halloween Ends.
No Laurie Strode running a podcast about trauma while Michael lives in a sewer.
Just Michael Myers, Haddonfield and a whole lot of people who apparently haven't heard the universal horror-movie rule:
If the creepy guy is standing across the street staring at you, don't go investigate.
The developers describe the game as an expansion of the world established by John Carpenter's original film, with familiar locations being expanded into a larger version of Haddonfield.
That means we're getting recognizable locations from the movie while also getting new areas that allow players to explore more of the town.
And yes, the Wallace and Doyle houses are in the game.
Orange Grove Estates also features larger residential areas, multiple entrances, windows, streets and open spaces designed specifically for Michael to stalk people. Players can even drive repaired vehicles and ride bikes around the neighborhood.
Because apparently the safest thing you can do when Michael Myers is hunting you is ride a bicycle.
