The Fascinating Part: Watching Ideas Become Mechanics

One of the biggest advantages of following a game while it is being developed is seeing ideas transform into actual gameplay.

An idea might start as something incredibly simple:

"What if the player couldn't see the monster?"

Then suddenly that idea requires mechanics.

How does the player know where the monster is?

Can the monster hear the player?

Can the player hide?

What happens if the player runs?

What happens if the monster finds them?

How does the game communicate danger without simply putting a giant flashing sign on the screen saying:

MONSTER IS HERE. PLEASE PANIC NOW.

These are the kinds of problems that developers have to solve.

And when you watch that process, you gain a much greater appreciation for just how much work goes into making something that ultimately feels effortless.
