3. The Human Centipede (First Sequence) (2009)
Few horror movies have generated more “What did I just watch?” reactions than The Human Centipede.
The premise is infamous for a reason.
A deranged surgeon kidnaps three people and decides to connect them together surgically.
That's it.
That's the pitch.
Somehow, director Tom Six turned that horrifyingly simple concept into an entire horror franchise.
The movie became a cultural phenomenon largely because people couldn't stop talking about the premise.
Even people who had never watched it knew about it.
And that's an impressive accomplishment when the movie's marketing strategy could essentially be summarized as:
“Come see something you absolutely cannot unsee.”
Whether you find it terrifying, disgusting, absurd, or some combination of all three, The Human Centipede undeniably occupies its own strange little corner of horror history.
