Dying Light and Dead Island
Dying Light and Dead Island

Two zombie game franchises. Two cinematic goldmines. Zero excuses, Hollywood.

Apparently, Hollywood has decided that if a video game contains zombies, the only logical response is to either ignore it for years or make a movie that causes everyone to stare silently at the screen afterward.

Meanwhile, two enormous zombie franchises are sitting around practically waving their arms and screaming, β€œHELLO?! WE HAVE EVERYTHING YOU NEED!”

I'm talking about Dying Light and Dead Island.

This idea actually came from JimmyNature in the comments of our article 25 Horror Video Game Movie Adaptations Worth Watching. And after reading the suggestion, I had one of those moments where you stop what you're doing, stare into the middle distance and say:

β€œWait a minute... he's absolutely onto something.”

So, JimmyNature, congratulations.

You have officially given us another thing to yell about.

Yes, you guys are absolutely correct. The fan base is currently there, just like the Resident Evil, Silent Hill and Evil Dead fan bases have come out to the theaters for the vast majority of the movie releases. The stories are already written and just waiting for a screenwriter to adapt them, whether into a movie series (preferably) or even a TV series in the likes of The Walking Dead. I can imagine both games as a TV series bringing in tens of thousands of viewers on a Sunday evening because the desire for zombie entertainment has not gone anywhere. The only thing that HAS gone are the Hollywood studio executives' balls to actually provide something that the people have asked for without any political bulls***! This idea by JimmyNature is an easy win-win situation for everyone. Shout out to the two of you for putting this idea out into the universe and let's hope it reaches the right ears! Great article!
