#1 Nobody Ever Leaves When They Should
This may be the most important rule in horror.
Something terrifying happens.
The characters discover a corpse.
Someone hears a demonic voice.
The walls start bleeding.
A creature appears in the hallway.
The family dog suddenly refuses to enter the house.
At this point, any sensible person would say:
“We're moving.”
Instead, somebody inevitably says:
“We can't just leave.”
WHY?
What exactly are you leaving behind?
Your mortgage?
Your favorite coffee mug?
A really good deal on homeowners insurance?
If your house has developed a supernatural infestation, you are officially allowed to abandon the security deposit.
